Dubai: Several free apps are transforming charitable giving into an easy and convenient activity this Ramadan. Here’s a lowdown on them.
Groupon
Deals and discount app, Groupon, in partnership with Emirates Red Crescent, is offering “Feed a labour iftar” for as low as Dh15. You can purchase iftars for 10 labourers or Dh150. The fine print claims buyers don’t have to do anything, as Red Crescent will use the money towards their daily iftar preparations. “I am so glad that there is such a deal on Groupon. I would really love to donate a hot meal to the needy,” said Colleen Qadadeh, an American expat in Dubai. Nearly 250 vouchers were bought within 24 hours of the deal going live.
Fetchr
Delivery app Fetcher has partnered with Majid Al Futtaim to help kids donate their old or new toys. All you need to do is to download the app and select your pick-up point using their promo code. The delivery staff will collect the toys and give them to the less fortunate children.
UberEats
UberEATS, along with Manoushe Street, will be contributing a meal to the needy people in the region. For every Manoushe Street delivery via UberEATS, the duo pledges a meal for donation via Emirates Red Crescent.
Uber
Transportation app Uber has been at the forefront of CSR activities all year round, and Ramadan is no different. With OMO Arabia’s help, the company is providing 50 per cent discounts on weekends to riders who want to drop clothes at various drop boxes in the city. The clothes collected from donation boxes are washed with OMO and Comfort before being packaged and delivered to families in need with the help of the Emirates Red Crescent. Anthony Khoury, general manager for Uber Middle East, said, “This year Uber will be making it easier for riders to share a touch of love and donate from their homes to those who need it the most.”
Careem
Careem is helping riders donate to MENA refugees every time a ride is taken. Customers have the option of choosing an additional Dh3 or Dh9 that will be added to their fare as donation. The home grown conveyance firm has also partnered with Moti Roti restaurant to feed construction workers toiling in the evening. For every new sign-up on the app Careem employees will donate a meal.
Emirates Foundation
Philanthropic organisation Emirates Foundation’s app allows Emirati youth to engage in volunteering activities.
Deliveroo
The region’s latest food delivery app, Deliveroo has tied up with Emirates Red Crescent to help you do the honours. During Ramadan, Deliveroo customers will be able to easily donate via the app and website by scrolling to the ‘Emirates Red Crescent’ tile. Customers will decide how much they wish to donate and Emirates Red Crescent will use these donations to further its humanitarian work around the world.
