BMW has introduced a new service that will allow owners of its new cars in the UAE to transmit wear and tear data automatically to the company's service centres.

The German auto manufacturer described its TeleService, which uses a built-in SIM card to transmit the information to its repair centres, as the most dramatic leap forward into the future of diagnostic technology.

A series of on-board computers check the status of the vehicle's essential operating components, including break pads, micro-filters, spark plugs and fluids, such as engine oil, coolant and brake oil.

The technology will help engineers at BMW's service centres to predict more accurately what services and parts its customers will require before the cars arrive at the repair shop.

"Experience gained from using on-board computers to relay technical data in Formula 1 has been applied directly to the new BMW cars, to ensure that more time is spent on the road and less in the pit-stop," said Guenther Seemann, Managing Director of BMW Group Middle East.

Teleservice is an extension to BMW's ConnectedDrive initiative, launched in the UAE last year.
