You have spent many evenings in the company of these TV stars in their poignant Pakistani dramas, now here’s a chance to see them in the flesh. For the first time, Hum TV Awards, an awards presentation ceremony to honour actors, directors and producers associated with Hum TV productions, will be held in Dubai at the World Trade Centre on April 9.

“It’s a proud moment for all of us... Our Pakistani dramas have stayed honest to our culture and are close to reality,” said the face of Hum TV Awards, Atiqa Odho. “Lots of people, even if they don’t live in Pakistan, feel a cultural connect. They feel that it could be a story of their homes ... After all, our family values are the same,” said Odho in an interview with tabloid!.

Pakistani drama is gaining widespread appeal, especially among Indians who love their crisp plots and melodrama-free acting. Channels such as Zee Zindagi are now telecasting popular Pakistani serials to feed that appetite and actors such as Fawad Khan have Ahsan Khan are now household names.

“We are extremely brave when it comes to our content. We don’t show you just glamour. We will put up a mirror and show you reality,” said Odho, who made her TV debut in Anwar Maqsood’s Sitara Aur Mehrunissa.

For the big night on Thursday, the third edition of the awards, Pakistani TV stars featuring in Hum TV will be out in full force. Actors including Khan of Khoobsurat fame, Sanam Jung, Ahsan Khan, Saba Qamar and Hamza Ali Abassi will attend.

“It’s a great achievement that Hum TV Awards are now going international. Earlier, we held these Awards in Pakistan... We believe in realistic acting and characters. Earlier there was not so much exposure for our serials, but with Hum Awards being held overseas it shows our growing popularity. It’s such a good sign,” said Ahsan Khan, who is nominated in the Best Actor category for his role in the TV series Mausam. So does he have an acceptance speech prepared?

“No. I don’t know if I will win because all the other nominees in this category are strong. Whether I win or not, I do know that it’s going to be a memorable night for all of us. I can’t wait.”

Don’t miss it!
