The wait is over. Meet the one-man army who has been protesting over several past decades against the flaws in the system and the government through the power of PIL (Public Interest Litigations).

Social activist Ramaswamy at 85 has more than 500 PILs to his credit and is known for his fearless attitude towards espousing a cause for the welfare of society.

Debutant director Vicky’s biopic Traffic Ramaswamy releases on June 22 in India and features his mentor SA Chandrasekar in the titular role.

Ramaswamy, who wrote his first letter to the government as a 14-year-old protesting unfair treatment by the local tehsildar, has come a long way since then. Inspired by leader Rajaji, his PILs have led to the ban of motorised fish carts that caused accidents as well as decongested roads in Chennai.

“He was even called to MGR’s office when he protested against the pavement hawkers and he dared to speak his mind to the Chief Minister,” said Vicky whose challenge lay in compiling several anecdotes from Ramaswamy’s life into a two-hour-long film.

Ramaswamy’s path earned him enemies and death threats. His wife was a big support in his activities. Actress Rohini plays Chandrasekar’s onscreen wife. The supporting cast includes Prakash Raj, Ambika, Manobala and RK Suresh.

Kugan S Palani is the cinematographer. Balamurali Balu is the music composer.
