Prabhu Deva is back doing what he does best, dance with no reservations, as he returns with his next film project, Lakshmi.

Deva plays one of the lead roles in this musical directed by Vijay, which stars the Mumbai-raised Ditya Bhande, who is best remembered as the winner of Super Dancers, a reality TV show. The 11-year-old marks her cinema debut playing the titular character.

The film revolves around the young Lakshmi, who is keen to participate in the Pride of India Jr dance competition. However, her mother (played by Aishwarya Rajesh) is against the idea. With the help of a dance teacher, played by Deva, she sets out to fulfil her dreams.

Director Vijay said the idea of writing Lakshmi took root when cinematographer Nirav Shah suggested: “Why not make a film around dance with Prabhu Deva in it?”

Vijay explained that while Deva was keen to do the film, he was particular that Lakshmi maintained a high standard. Deva was last seen working with director Vijay on the horror film Devi.

The team travelled to different parts of India auditioning children. Twelve children are a part of this story, which also talks about reality shows with children.

Praising the nimble-footed Bhande, Deva said that she is a powerhouse of talent and she matched his every step.

Lakshmi, produced by Pramod Films, releases in UAE on August 23.
