Here’s a treat for Suriya fans.

In director Vikram Kumar’s 24, being filmed in both Tamil and Telugu, Suriya plays three roles — a first in his career.

The film’s trailer was released at an event on April 11 in Chennai and revealed the star’s three different look: as an old man in a wheelchair; a young man romancing Samantha; and a middle-aged man sharing the screen with Nithya Menon.

The star of the event was music composer A.R. Rahman, who has composed six songs for the film.

There were live performances of some songs from the film. Singer Benny Dayal sang Kaalam En Kadhali, followed by Chinmayi Sripadha singing Naan Un. Shathisree Gopalan was next with Aaroroo. The Telugu version of this song, Laalijo, was sung by actress Nithya Menon with Rahman playing the keyboard.

Vairamuthu and son Madan Karky have written the lyrics.

Suriya, who has produced 24 under his banner 2D Entertainments, said that this is an ambitious film.

“Vikram narrated the story to me for four hours and I was zapped. We next approached Mr Rahman, who set aside half an hour for the narration, but it got extended to six hours,” he said.

Addressing the gathering of fans, Suriya said that he considered their approval of his trailer a blessing.

“When a film is good, do support it; and when it is bad, you must reject it, even if it is mine,” said Suriya.

“This will make us choose the right scripts.”

Expressing concern over the recent cases of suicides among students doing their grade 12 board examinations, Suriya said he was pained to hear of it.

“During my school days, like my father mentioned earlier, I was a very quiet boy and did not achieve anything until much later in my life. There is a time for everyone, when things change for the best. We have to bid that time and each one of us has a purpose in life,” Suriya said.
