He played a tough no-nonsense police-officer in Dheeran Adhigaram Ondru and shedding the uniform of DSP Dheeran, Karthi returns to the screen as a farmer in director Pandiraj’s upcoming film, Kadaikutty Singam.

If Dheeran’s role demanded that Karthi be watchful about his mannerisms and reactions, Kadaikutty Singam gives him the freedom to be just himself.

Pandiraj’s eighth directorial venture is set in a village and follows the life of Kadaikutty Singam-the youngest and only brother to five sisters.

Veteran actor Satyaraj plays Kadaikutty’s father. Bhanupriya and Viji Chandrasekhar play Satyaraj’s on-screen wives. Sayeesha is paired opposite Karthi. The supporting cast includes Monica, Soori, Sriman and Priya Bhavani Shankar.

Look out for super singer participants, brother-sister duo Tej and Tanushri making their screen debut with Kadaikutty Singam.

“Being the only son, Kadaikutty Singam has to shoulder responsibilities,” elaborated Karthi, who earlier played rustic characters in films like Paruthiveeran and Komban.

Pandiraj’s story salutes the man of the soil, while emphasising on family bonds. With a family that counts twenty-plus members, Kadaikutty’s relationships stretch to include not just his five sisters but their spouses and children.

Karthi praised Pandiraj’s skill in crafting many different characters-each with a distinct identity.

D. Imman has scored music. Cinematographer Velraj’s camera pans through the lush fields of rural Tamil Nadu. Watch out for the ‘rekla race’ sequences — a traditional sport not in practice today.

Kadaikutty Singam releases in the UAE on July 12.
