You can’t help smiling at a scene from the trailer of B Tech where lead actor Asif Ali says: “There are more qualified B Techs in India than mosquitoes.”

Debutant director Mridul Nair’s campus tale is placed inside an engineering college in Bengaluru and follows the lives of a few young men. Ali plays the lead role of Anand, and Sreenath Bhasi, Deepak Parambol and Saijju Kurup play his college buddies. Aparna Balamurali is paired opposite Ali.

While the first half dwells on the fun aspects of college life, the second half touches on a sensitive political issue, said Nair.

Arjun Ashokan’s performance as a college freshman is much praised.

Nair, an ad filmmaker, assisted veteran Malayalam director V.K. Prakash on 12 films. Working under Prakash exposed him to different genres of storytelling, apart from giving him the opportunity to work with talented technicians.

“That made my jump from an ad film to making my first feature easier,” he added.

“B Tech is an entertainer with its mix of romance, comedy, and values of family and friendship,” promised Nair.

The supporting cast includes Aju Verghese, Anoop Menon and Alencier Ley Lopez.

B Tech, produced by Maqtro Pictures, releases in the UAE on June 14.
