Sridevi ‘accidentally drowned' in bathtub in Dubai hotel
I opened bathroom door at 8pm to find Sridevi dead: Boney Kapoor
Boney on Thursday was in New Delhi with his two daughters Janhvi and Khushi to receive the Best Actress posthumous honour at the 65th National Film Awards ceremony. Janhvi wore her mother’s sari at the event.
Sridevi’s powerful role as a vengeful mother in the Hindi film Mom fetched her the honour.
In the movie, directed by Ravi Udyawar, Sridevi played a mother who sets out to avenge her step-daughter, essayed by Pakistani actress Sajal Ali.
The actress died suddenly in a Dubai hotel in February at the age of 54. Her cause of death was not deemed suspicious.
Her husband Boney said the late actress gave her best to all the films that she did in her career and it is unfortunate that she is getting her first National Film Award after her death.
“She truly deserves it and she has been around for almost 50 years and done almost 300 films,” Boney said. “She has always given her best to all her films. Finally, unfortunately after she has left, that she has been awarded with this honour.”
Boney expressed his gratitude towards the Indian government, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the jury, which was led by Sridevi’s Mr India director Shekhar Kapur.
“The world is watching all what she did, all what she achieved... Thanks to television and the digital era, she will continue entertaining people forever... As long as entertainment industry exists, as long as media exists, she will continue to entertain everybody,” he said.
