Keeping in mind the theme of valiant teachers who sculpt minds in her new life-affirming film Hichki, Rani Mukerji will pay it forward by felicitating a select group of UAE-based tutors and students in Dubai on March 19. The award-winning Bollywood A-lister, with hits such as Black, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and thriller Talaash to her credit, will make an appearance at the Vox Cinemas, Mall Of The Emirates, after the invites-only Hichki screening at 5.30pm.

Mukerji plays Naina Mathur, a teacher with Tourette Syndrome — a nervous system disorder marked by involuntary ticks and sudden noises — who’s on call to educate a group of underdog students.

The trailers indicate an inspiring personality who doesn’t let her disability define her existence as she takes on the tough job of sculpting young rebels. The issue of discrimination of those with disabilities in the work-force in India and her struggles to make her aspirations of being a teacher come true are chronicled in this film.

“Rani Mukerji will felicitate all those teachers in the UAE who have made a difference to young lives and who has been a source of inspiration to many students here after the screening of Hichki,” said Nelson D’Souza, Head Of Operations (MENA), Yash Raj Films to Gulf News tabloid!.

The teachers and students who have been invited for the screening are contest winners who have been hand-picked based on their inspiring tales of making a difference to the society.

Directed by Siddharth P Malhotra and produced by Maneesh Sharma and Aditya Chopra of Yash Raj Films, Hichki has already been getting a lot of love from Bollywood industry insiders.

Recently, actor Anil Kapoor tweeted his approval for the film.

“Watched Hichki last night and absolutely loved it! The whole team has done an exceptional job especially the kids and Neeraj Kabi! And Rani, you are my new favourite teacher! Your performance has left me speechless!” tweeted Kapoor, who has worked with Mukjerji in films such as Nayak.

Hichki is out in the UAE on March 22.
