Kalba coach Vieira sacked just one game into new season

Brazilian who ‘showed no positive response,’ now replaced by Viviani

Kalba: Jorvan Vieira has been sacked one match into the new Arabian Gulf League season after Friday’s 6-2 defeat away to Al Wahda.

Italian coach Fabio Viviani replaces the Brazilian, who won promotion from the second tier last season.

Kalba chief executive officer Khalid Al Naqbi said the dismissal “was not due to the loss against Al Wahda, since we don’t judge a coach on one game. The decision was taken after receiving the report of the external camp and after sitting with the coach to discuss the pros and cons.

“The coach showed no positive response to fill the gaps and achieve a good start, including hiring foreign players as we look to fulfil the aspirations of fans to achieve an advanced defence to stay in the league.”

Kalba next play Emirates at home in the league on September 14 and also face Al Wasl away in the League Cup on Tuesday.
