A world-renowned fashion designer, murdered in cold blood by a serial killer, right on his front porch. The death of Gianni Versace – Italian founder of the Versace fashion house – shook the fashion industry in the 1990s, and if you’re curious about the events leading to his death, you can now retrace his steps.

Versace’s former mansion has been transformed into a boutique hotel, The Villa Casa Casuarina, in Miami beach, Florida, US.

Visitors can swim in a pool lined with 24-karat gold tiles, sleep on double king-sized beds and gaze at the ocean from the rooftop observatory.

The assassination of Gianni Versace shook the fashion industry in the 1990s.

More morbidly, tourists can also pose for pictures on the front steps, where Versace was fatally shot.

On July 15, 1997, the fashion designer had just returned from a walk when Andrew Cunanan, an American serial killer, gunned him down. Cunanan was known to have murdered at least five people and was listed in the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) 10 Most Wanted Fugitives list. He killed himself eight days after shooting Versace.

Versace’s death has gained much attention, especially after creators of award-winning TV show American Crime Story, announced that their next season would be dedicated to this particular crime story.

Titled ‘The Assassination of Gianni Versace’, the show will debut on January 17.
