In much the same way Gen Z shivers at the thought of no internet connectivity, Toy Story 5 sees Woody, Buzz Light Year et. all shake when a seemingly innocuous looking box turns up in the new Toy Story trailer.

The quick clip that teases the upcoming fifth edition of the Toy Story franchise is set to the tune of INXS’s Never Tear Us Apart. In it, a package is delivered to Bonnie Anderson, Andy’s sister and the one who inherited all his toys back in Toy Story 3.

The package turns out to be a frog-framed tablet named Lilypad, with the simple words: Let’s play!

It may be a gentle war cry but it sets the film up for the modern debate: How can analogue toys complete with screens for a digital native’s eyeballs?

Making a reappearance in Toy Story 5 are the voices of Tom Hanks, Tim Allen and Joan Cusack, among others. It will also introduce us to the vocals of Ernie Hudson, Conan O’Brien and Greta Lee as the voice of Lilypad, according to Pixar’s description on YouTube.

The film is expected to release in summer next year.
