If you've heard crackling and banging in the distance every night at around 8.30pm recently but have no idea what it is, wonder no longer - it's not tinnitus, but a fireworks display.

As of January 5, DSF and Al Zarooni Group have been putting on a pyrotechnic (1) show every night and will continue for the rest of this month, with a finale on February 5. That makes a whole 32 nights of dazzle!

The fireworks are set off from the Al Seef area of Bur Dubai (2), and will be visible right across the Creek and from Business Bay crossing (in fact, we even spied them from Emirates Towers this week!).

But to ensure prime viewing pleasure, we'll be watching them from an abra (3) or from the Sheraton's al fresco restaurant, Creekside, (4) which is just across the Creek from Al Seef Street - right in the middle of the action.

Footnotes

1. The fireworks will last for 15 minutes and will stretch across six kilometres of night sky

2. Right near beautiful Bastakiya, this is where the old textile souks are - running parallel to the creek - as well as the famous creek-overhanging falafel joint Bait Al Wakeel (04 353 0530). It comes alive with street performers and extra market stalls during DSF.

3. Head to any of the abra stations along the creek in Deira or Bur Dubai and you will be able to hire a private abra per hour (prices vary, but you will end up paying around Dh100).

4. This Japanese seafood restaurant serves up an all-you-can-eat-and-drink deal every night (Dh225 with selected beverages, Dh175 without drinks). To see the creek and fireworks you'll have to book a table on the terrace - which is popular, so call in advance (04 207 1750).
