If you’re anything like BTS’s Jungkook and still haven’t recovered from the ending of KPop Demon Hunters, we get it. Directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, the animated film follows a world-famous K-pop girl group with a secret side hustle—battling demons. The emotional finale has been dubbed K-Trauma by fans, thanks to the heartbreaking moment when the misunderstood demon Jinu (voiced by Ahn Hyo-seop) sacrifices himself to save Rumi. Yes, somehow two animated characters, two pixels, had enough chemistry to break hearts worldwide. Fans are still reeling... and still demanding a better ending.

You might have hope. In a recent interview with Screen Rant, co-director Maggie Kang hinted at the potential for a sequel to K-Pop Demon Hunters. “Always,” she said, when asked about continuing the story. “There are always side stories, and things we’ve thought of while making this one. There are a lot of questions that are answered, but not fully. I think there are a lot of pockets we can explore.”

Adding to the buzz, voice actor Arden Cho, who plays the film’s lead vocalist, stirred excitement on social media by tweeting: “Can we be #1 until Netflix confirms a sequel? Pretty please.” Animated Netflix originals with sequels often follow a 2–3 year timeline. If greenlit soon, this sequel would likely hit screens in 2027 or 2028.

The hype is understandable. K-Pop Demon Hunters has held its spot as Netflix’s most-streamed movie for several weeks, while tracks from its original soundtrack are making waves on the Billboard Hot 100. The breakout hit “Golden” even cracked the top 10.

With real-life K-pop hitmakers like Teddy Park (BLACKPINK) and Grammy-winning producer Lindgren (BTS, TWICE) behind the music, the film’s chart success is hardly a surprise.
