International talk show queen Oprah Winfrey, who was in India to shoot for a TV show this week, is all praise for Bollywood celebrities after meeting them at a party hosted in her honour by socialite Parmeshwar Godrej.
"Was so great meeting you and all the beautiful Bollywooders. Directors, poets, screenwriters, what a nite!" the 57-year-old posted on Twitter.
On her first visit to India, Winfrey received a warm welcome from Indian socialites and Bollywood celebrities including megastar Amitabh Bachchan, superstar Shah Rukh Khan, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan at the party. She had earlier spent time with the Bachchan clan at their home.
The guest list also included filmmakers Ashutosh Gowariker and Rajkumar Hirani, actors Anupam Kher, his son Sikander Kher, Hrithik Roshan, Preity Zinta, Priyanka Chopra, Shilpa Shetty with husband Raj Kundra, Abhay Deol with actress-girlfriend Preeti Desai, Lara Dutta, Dino Morea, Sameera Reddy, Kalki Koechlin, Kangna Ranaut, Anil Kapoor and Imran Khan.
Winfrey is in India to shoot for her new show, Next Chapter, which will see her travelling around the world and interviewing celebrities.
The date for Winfrey's arrival in India was kept under wraps and her presence in Mumbai was only known after novelist and columnist Shobhaa De posted a tweet saying, "Looking forward to meeting the Big O (Oprah) tonight! She is the most amazing, inspiring, influential woman on planet earth. Welcome to Mumbai!"
In an earlier tweet, De wrote: "Oprah to be hosted in Mumbai at a swish black tie dinner on the 16th. The party isn't being thrown by any of the wannabe socialites. Guess who?"
Driving Miss Winfrey
Amitabh Bachchan must have several chauffeurs at his disposal, but he decided to drive Oprah Winfrey himself to the party organised in her honour.
Upon her arrival in the country's entertainment capital, Winfrey went to visit the Bachchan residence Jalsa to meet Abhishek and Aishwarya's two month-old daughter, nicknamed Beti B.
After spending over an hour at the house, the Big B was seen in the car with Abhishek in the passenger seat and Aishwarya, Winfrey and Jaya in the rear seat.
Winfrey wore an orange sari for the occasion.
Big B, who is often spotted behind the wheel, was overwhelmed to meet her, and more than happy to drive her to socialite Parmeshwar Godrej's residence, where the star-studded bash was organised.
"The gracious Oprah Winfrey visits our home, to meet us and bless the baby... warm hearted, endearing... drive her to party in her honour. And Oprah in sari... looking lovely!!" tweeted Big B after the party.
Zinta's Preity upset
Preity Zinta enjoyed the party to welcome Oprah Winfrey, but it turned into a bad experience when her car ended up getting damaged by paparazzi.
"Would have been a perfect evening until the press jumped all over the car n nearly got some1 killed n my car damaged n scratched.. Bachaao!" she tweeted.
The damage to her car happened while she was on her way back home from the bash.
"Broken side mirrors, dents n scratches on the car. Who 2 blame n who 2 catch? Of course, if some 1 from press got hurt it would b breaking news," wrote Zinta.
"Anyway Guys ! 2 much action 4 me 4 one day. Time 4 my beauty sleep now. Need 2 sit still n be calm! Good night n sweet dreams. Love u all"
