‘Krishnadasi’ actress says producers should give viewers a variety of subjects

Actress Jaya Binju, currently starring in TV show Krishnadasi, says producers need to develop more challenging content for audiences.
Asked if she feels that shows are mostly led by women characters, Binju said: “Yes it is, because our audience is primarily women. Nevertheless, I don’t think women in India or globally are so narrow minded that they can’t digest a variety of subjects.”
The actress, whose role in the Colors’ show is nearing an end, says the “problem is not the women audience, but the mad race of Television Rating Points [TRP] that makes [producers] insecure about trying something new.”
“According to me, it’s not just about how TV or any medium of entertainment should always focus on relevant and meaningful subjects. Even a saas-bahu [mother-in-law and daughter-in-law] saga can be interesting if it doesn’t succumb to the cliche patterns of television,” Binju added.
What does she plan to do now since her role in Krishnadasi is ending?
“I always believe in going with the flow. Currently I am on the look out for projects that will come my way. But as always, the potential of the role and the people involved would be my first priority,” she said.
