The movie, which opened to glowing reviews, is off to a great start in Kerala and beyond
Dubai: Mohanlal’s much-awaited thriller Thudarum is off to a flying start, collecting an impressive Rs 240 million (Dh10.67 million) in just three days, reaffirming his enduring star power.
Directed by Tharun Moorthy, the slow-burn thriller has benefited from glowing word-of-mouth and a groundswell of nostalgia for seeing Mohanlal back in his mundu-clad, emotionally raw avatar.
In my review of Thudarum, I noted how this gripping thriller, anchored by Mohanlal’s searing performance and monstrous villains, is exactly what Malayalam cinema needed. What L2: Empuraan held back, Thudarum delivers — a grounded, vulnerable everyman fighting against systemic brutality, with a solid script anchoring every stare, silence, and punch.
The film’s steady pacing, powerful metaphors, and chilling performances by Prakash Varma and Binu Pappu have clearly resonated with audiences. Mohanlal’s pathos-filled portrayal of Shanmugham — a man pushed to the edge — proves once again that all it takes is one impactful performance to dominate the box office.
Thudarum isn't just a comeback — it’s a reminder that when Mohanlal is at his restrained best, few can match his brilliance.
