He’s cast as a politician in the making

Tamil actor Vimal has been growing his moustache for that handle-bar look, often associated with police in Tamil films.
However Vimal’s new look is for the role of Anbu Chellam, a politician in the making, in upcoming film Mapla Singam.
Mapla Singam is touted to be a comedy and is directed by newcomer Rajasekar, former associate of director Ezhil. Anjali, who was last paired opposite Vimal in Kalakalappu, plays a lawyer, Shailaja.
“Her personality is a contrast to that of Anbu, whose character comes with grey shades,” says Rajasekhar.
The character Anbu comes from a political background, his father being a noted political leader. Veteran actor Radha Ravi takes on this role. This story is set in a small town and a situation there brings Anbu and Shailaja to tackle an issue. And, predictably, Cupid strikes, too.
Mapla Singam, is produced by P. Madan and the supporting cast includes actors Soori, Jayaprakash, Kali Venkat and Manobala. Ragunanthan has scored the music. Cinematography is by Dharun Balaji.
