Vijay Yesudas, who has regaled us with songs in Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu and Hindi, turns hero in Padai Veeran. He plays Muneeswaran, a policeman. While he played a supporting role in Dhanush’s Maari, this is his first in the lead.
The Tamil story set in rural Theni is directed by Dhana, who assisted director Maniratnam on the sets of Kadal and OK Kanmani.
“Padavi Veeran dwells on the life of Muneeswaran over one particular year,” said Dhana, who has also written the story. “The ups and downs he goes through in this phase.”
Newcomer Amritha is paired opposite Yesudas. Look out for veteran director Bharathiraja in a role never seen before.
“He plays a retired ex-serviceman residing in the village. It is a prominent role,” said Dhana.
The supporting cast includes Akhil, director Manoj Kumar and Kavitha Bharthi (as the villain).
Karthik Raja has composed music. Rajvel Mohan is the cinematographer.
Padai Veeran produced by Manivannan releases on February 2.
