Director Gokul says the Tamil flick is a comedy

Tamil film Junga explores what happens when an Indian gangster travels abroad to achieve a long-nurtured ambition.
Not only does he get a makeover, he also drives flashy cars, falls in love with an NRI (non-resident Indian) woman and does cool stunts.
Vijay Sethupathi plays Junga in this Gokul-directed film. Sethupathi is not new to playing a don. He was seen last in Vikram Vedha (Tamil) as Vedha, a gangster who locked horns with actor Madhavan’s Inspector Vikram. Earlier in Soodhu Kavvum (Tamil), he was a don too.
This gangster is different in every way, said Gokul. “He is a miser who never spends a penny but manages to get what he wants,” he said.
Gokul while writing the script did not have Sethupathi in mind. But once filming was complete, he could not envision anyone else as Junga.
Praising Sethupathi, he added: “It is not often that the director and actor share same vision. With Junga our thought process was similar.”
Sayeesha plays Yazhini — Junga’s love interest — an NRI based in Paris. Malayalam actress Madonna returns to Tamil cinema with Junga, she plays a Telugu woman in love with Junga. The supporting cast includes veteran actor Radha Ravi, as a senior don, Saranya Ponvannan playing Junga’s mother and comedian Yogi Babu as his assistant.
Gokul, who last directed horror comedy Kashmora with Karthi in the lead, promises a comedy. Junga was shot in six European countries including France, Austria, Germany and Georgia.
Don’t miss it!
Junga releases in the UAE on July 26.
