‘Thattathin Marayathu’ gets a Tamil remake

Malayalam actor Nivin Pauly got his big break with Thattathin Marayathu, a romantic drama that told the story of a Hindu man falling in love with a Muslim woman.

Directed and written by Vineeth Sreenivasan, this film worked wonders for Isha Talwar too, on her debut into Malayalam cinema opposite Pauly.

Now comes the Tamil remake Meendum Oru Kathal Kathai, directed by Mithran R. Jawahar. Jawahar has been successful in directing remakes of Telugu hits, beginning with his debut film, Yaaridee Nee Mohini, followed by Kutty and Uthamaputhiran.

In Meendum Oru Kathal Kathai, newcomer Walter Phillip reprises Pauly’s role from the original. Talwar repeats her role of Aisha from the Malayalam version. This is Talwar’s second Tamil film after Thillu Mullu, which did not do much for her career. Talwar was initially not keen on playing the same role, but on second thoughts went ahead.

The supporting cast includes Nasser, Thalaivasal Vijay, Manoj K. Jain, Divya and Vidyulekha Ramani.

G.V. Prakash has scored music. Vishnu Sharma is the cinematographer.

The trailers of Meendum Oru Kadhal Kathai reveal Talwar, looking as stunning as she did in Thattathin Marayathu.

Walter shows promise as an actor with his own identity and not caught in imitating Pauly from the original.

Will it work the same magic for Walter like it did for Pauly?

Meendum Oru Kathal Kathai releases in India on August 25.
