Annanukku Jai from the house of director Vetrimaaran — an Indian National Award winner known for films such as Polladhavan, Aadukalam, Visaranai and Kaaka Muttai — comes with promise of a good story.

Touted as a political satire, debutant director and avid traveller Rajkumar found the seed for his script on one of his journeys.

“It was in Dharmapuri where I witnessed a case between two political parties and I came home with the idea for a story,” he said.

“The story is a political satire with Dinesh playing Mattai Shekar, a regular guy who transforms into a different man once he takes to politics,” said the former journalist who also worked in television before entering cinema.

Comedian Mayilsamy plays Dinesh’s onscreen father, and it is unlike the comic roles he has played earlier.

“His character is a serious person and the story explores the father-son relationship,” Rajkumar said.

Veteran actor Radha Ravi plays the district secretary and mentor of Shekar, while Mahima Nambiar is paired opposite Dinesh. She plays Sundari, a high school drop-out who is the leader of a local musical group. Comedian Vaiyapuri plays an interesting character.

Vetrimaaran, who has co-produced Annanukku Jai along with Fox Star Studios, said that he connected with the story that dwelled on a father-son bond.

“It is a film on values and is treated like a comedy of errors,” he said.

Annanukku Jai releases in UAE on August on August 30.
