Taapsee Pannu is riding the wave of success.

After surprising viewers with her ability to take on action scenes in the Akshay Kumar starrer Baby, the Punjabi actress won over hearts again as the ghost of Kanchana 2, a Tamil film that released last month. Pannu believes in exploring different characters and not necessarily playing the sweet and good girl. Her character Shreya in Vai Raja Vai, endorses that.

“You cannot categorise Shreya as good or bad,” said the former software professional who entered the industry via modelling.

“She is a headstrong woman with an attitude, clearly not the sweet, innocent thing. Shreya has been assigned a job and she merely executes it. She does not care about the hero or the villain. I know this role will raise eyebrows. My body language and the tone of delivery is different from my earlier roles.”

Pannu appears in the second half of the story for around twenty minutes, but that short duration is enough for her to leave a mark, she added.

Recalling her role in Baby, she said, “Playing not the regular roles excites me. Even in Baby, my presence was for some time only. Besides it’s an action thriller, yet my character was well noticed.”

Her next Hindi release is Runningshadi.com, opposite Amit Sadh.

She plays Nimmi, a Sardarini in this romcom, directed by Amit Roy and produced by Shoojit Sirkar.

“Nimmi is close to who I am, a middle-class girl who goes through school and college,” continued Pannu.

“So there was a lot of personal inputs. Nimmi is [an] extremely impulsive, spontaneous and funky character who goes by her heart. People will adore her.”
