Music composer James Vasanthan turns director

From composing tunes, James Vasanthan is now going a step further. Donning the director’s hat, Vasanthan is working on his first film, Vaanavil Vaazhkai.

Set against the backdrop of a college campus, this is a musical story with new actors.

“In our industry, we usually have a set of beautiful songs in a film and call it a musical. But in the West, a musical is a production in which the lead actors sing and act all by themselves,” said Vasanthan who got his break in the industry with the Tamil film, Subramaniapuram.

“There are 19 songs in this film, including hip-hop and rock,” added Vasanthan, who has also scripted the story of Vaanavil Vaazhkai.
