Fans celebrate as Malayalam action-comedy returns in stunning 4K
Dubai: Superstar Mohanlal's beloved Malayalam action-comedy, Chotta Mumbai, has made an anticipated return to cinemas, captivating audiences once again starting June 6, 2025, nearly two decades after its initial launch.
Fans across Kerala and beyond have flocked to theaters, eager to relive the vibrant energy and cherished memories of one of Mohanlal's most adored films. This widely anticipated re-release has sparked a significant buzz, with reports highlighting sold-out shows and jubilant celebrations.
Now upgraded to 4K, Chotta Mumbai has roared back to packed houses. Media reports confirm videos from cities like Kottayam and Ernakulam show theatres erupting in whistles and cheers, especially during Mohanlal’s iconic entry. In Ernakulam, audiences were so enthralled, they reportedly stood up and danced during the screenings.
Mohanlal shared a heartfelt throwback photo from the film, writing, “Thanks for all the love. #ChottaMumbai4K now in theatres near you!” Fans online echoed that love, calling the experience “worth every penny.”
The re-release isn't just about the lead; it's a vibrant tribute to the film's legendary supporting cast. Witness Kalabhavan Mani's powerful CI Nadesan, Rajan P. Dev's unforgettable Pambu Chackochan, and Jagathy Sreekumar's hilarious Padakkam Basheer, all returning to the big screen for fans to cherish once more.
While other re-releases often struggle, "Chotta Mumbai" has sparked a "full-blown frenzy" among fans! Many netizens are predicting it could even "break records for re-released films in Kerala." As one fan enthusiastically shared on social media, "Only Mohanlal movies work like this for re-releases!"
The film is being widely praised for its "crisp humour" and "unforgettable character introductions." "It still feels fresh," commented one fan, while another joyfully added, "Feels like I’m reliving my FDFS from 18 years ago!"
Unlike some films that gained cult status only later, Chotta Mumbai was an instant hit on day one. At a time when Malayalam cinema was transitioning from rural to urban narratives, this film led the charge—with Rahul Raj’s energetic soundtrack adding to its mass appeal.
Mohanlal was last seen in the thriller Thudarum, now streaming on JioCinema. He’s also set for a cameo in Kannappa and is reuniting with Sathyan Anthikad for Hridayapoorvam. Another fan-favourite, Udayananu Tharam, will hit theatres again on June 20 as part of the re-release wave.
