Khushbu Sundar slams 'Thalaivar 173' rumours starring Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan

In a surprising turn, acclaimed South Indian director Sundar C, husband of actress and politician Khushbu Sundar, has stepped down from directing Superstar Rajinikanth’s upcoming film, tentatively titled 'Thalaivar173.'

The announcement triggered widespread speculation on social media. Some users claimed Sundar C presented a weak story to Rajinikanth and described his press note as “disrespectful and arrogant.” Khushbu Sundar hit back at these rumours, writing on X (formerly Twitter), “And you tweet and raise questions on hearsay?? What a disaster you are.”

When another user shared a meme suggesting Rajinikanth was fleeing from Khushbu as the reason for Sundar C’s exit, she replied, “Is this how your mother treats you?? Thanks for the info.”

Khushbu also responded to a troll claiming her husband had been “thrown out” due to poor storytelling, warning, “My slipper size is 41, are you ready to get beaten up??” 

On Thursday, Sundar C released a statement citing “unforeseen and unavoidable circumstances” for stepping back from the project. The film, produced by Kamal Haasan’s Raaj Kamal Films International, had generated enormous excitement among fans.

In a note titled “A heartfelt note to my dearest fans and well-wishers,” Sundar C said: “It is with a heavy heart that I share some important news with you. Due to unforeseen and unavoidable circumstances, I have made the difficult decision to step back from the prestigious project, #Thalaivar173.”

He added that directing Rajinikanth under Kamal Haasan’s banner was a dream come true, and expressed gratitude for their guidance and inspiration:

“I will always hold them in the highest regard. The special moments we have shared over the past few days will be cherished forever. They have taught me invaluable lessons, and I will continue to seek their inspiration as I move forward.”

While stepping away, Sundar C promised to continue seeking guidance from the Tamil cinema stalwarts. He also addressed his fans:

“Please accept my sincere apologies if this news has disappointed those who had eagerly anticipated this venture. I am committed to making it up to you and promise to continue bringing you entertainment that keeps your spirits high. Thank you for your unwavering support and understanding.”
