Tamil comedian partners with debutant P. Arokkiya Dasfor political satire

When was the last time Tamil comedian Goundamani had you in splits?
The actor, last seen in 2010’s Jaggubhai, is remembered for his scenes with fellow actor Senthil and their rib-tickling humour.
Goundamani returns in a lead role in debutant director P. Arokkiya Das’s 49-O. He plays a farmer and champions their cause in this political satire.
Das, who hails from a rural background said, “I grew up in an atmosphere where I noticed that the survival of a farmer is hard. Is it the economy that is blocking the growth of agriculture, is it the society that is turning a blind eye to the hand that feeds it or is it the political system that drags the oldest profession into dire straits?”
Narrated with humour woven into his script, Das raises these questions.
Goundamani is supported by actors Mayil Samy, M.S.Baskar, Thirumurugan and Soma Sundaram. Music director K has composed music. Produced by Dr Siva, 49-O releases in India on September 17.
