‘Acharam’ a romantic thriller inspired by life

Ganesh Venkatraman is back with Tamil film Acharam.

The actor, who played a police officer in Unnaipol Oruvan, dons the uniform once again. “But this is not a typical cop story,” said Venkatraman.

“This story dwells on the personal life of Surya, a cop, and the transformation in his character following an incident.”

Told in non-linear narrative, it portrays two sides of Surya, one a straight-shooter and the other with grey shades.

“I had to get into Surya’s head to understand how Surya would react to every situation. There is a social message conveyed in a subtle way,” he added.

Acharam, directed by Mohan Krishna, was inspired by a real-life story.

“This incident happened in my brother’s friend’s life. He was a cop too,” said Krishna. Actor Munna Simon, last seen in Mani Ratnam’s Raavanan, is the other lead.

Simon said, “My character Siva is a lover boy married to Ramya, a role played by Poonam Kaur.”

Actress Rekha plays Surya’s mother.

“Acharam is a racy thriller and will keep viewers guessing,” said Venkatraman, who has wrapped up Thani Oruvan, directed by M Raja. The shooting for his Bollywood debut film, Guns of Benares, a remake of Tamil film Polladhavan, is also complete.

Acharam, produced by A Shankar Padma, releases in India on June 19.
