The Imitation Game

He’s knocked heads with Captain Kirk in Star Trek: Into Darkness, he’s fought trolls and elves in The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies, but does he have what it takes to break the Enigma code? Benedict Cumberbatch plays mathematician Alan Turing, who’s called upon by the British government to do the impossible: crack the unbreakable coded messages intercepted from the Nazis. He and cryptanalyst Joan Clark (Keira Knightly) work together to unlock the code that could end the Second World War. Along the way, we learn that Turing has a secret of his own. In the end, it will take a man with secrets to break the biggest one. If you’re looking for an Oscar-worthy film, loaded with great performances, this fact-based flick will not disappoint.

Automata

With Earth’s ecosystem on the verge of collapse, robots are called upon to protect what’s left of the human population. But when a robot breaks a protocol put in place to protect a human, you call robotics insurance agent Jacq Vaucan (Antonio Banderas). While chasing after robot insurance claims doesn’t sound exciting, this movie has plenty of action, drama and twists to keep you entertained.

From A to B

Remember how much you enjoyed City Of Life? Well get ready for this latest UAE homemade film. Director Ali F Mustafa is back this time taking us on a journey from Abu Dhabi to Beirut with three childhood buddies. The three friends go on the road trip they’d always meant to do but it turns them a little crazy… think fun and laughs like Road Trip, only this time it’s more camels than carnage.

Zulu

When you get two big names like Orlando Bloom and Forest Whitaker together in a film — you know it’s going to work. This was the closing film for the 2013 Cannes Film Festival, finally making its way to UAE cinemas and it’s definitely worth the wait. It’s a tale of race relations in post-apartheid Cape Town.

Still showing: PK

The controversial Bollywood film PK starring Aamir Khan and Anushka Sharma is starting its fourth week here in Dubai, having broken box-office records at home. Film buffs have a lot of good things to say about the film, so if you’ve never seen a Bollywood film, now is your chance (and you can do so with English subtitles at Novo cinemas this weekend!).
