Philippines aims for the only crown that has eluded it

Queenierich Rehman was recently crowned Miss World Philippines, a dream come true for the Fil-Morrocan beauty. She is set to represent the country in the Miss World 2012 pageant in China next month.
Of all the Filipina beauty queens competing in international pageants, Rehman was the last to be crowned, but the first to compete abroad.
tabloid! caught up with her and found out how she’s preparing for her new challenge — another shot for the Philippines for the only crown that has eluded it so far.
Q: How are things after the pageant?
A: It’s been really busy with so many public appearances, charity activities and training. But it’s great — the experience, meeting a lot of people.
Q: You’ve tried other pageants before, with no luck. When your name was finally announced, what came to your mind?
A: Finally, I did it. A lot of people think pageants are just whimsical competitions. There’s a lot of hard work that goes into it. Not winning in previous pageants just gave me more motivation to do better next time. It didn’t mean that I wasn’t good enough; perhaps it was just not for me. When Miss World Philippines came, I guess it was for me. All the hard work and prayers paid off.
Q: How does it feel being the new Miss World Philippines?
A: I’m very happy. I feel so blessed. I am overwhelmed with the many good things that have been happening, but at the same time I am focused on doing my preparations for the Miss World pageant.
Q: Tell us about that. You’ll be the first to compete among all our beauty queens.
A: Yes, it is a bit of a pressure, but am thankful for the support of the local Miss World organisation. I have big shoes to fill, with Gwendolyn [Ruais] winning First Princess last year. And I know this is the crown that has remained most elusive to us, so we have another shot and hopefully I’ll bring home the crown.
Q: How are you preparing? Any special beauty ritual or diet regimen?
A: It’s mostly still on personality development, keeping abreast with current affairs issues. For beauty, I try to keep things simple and find ordinary water a great beauty ally. Diet? Just eat all the right foods, make sure I have enough nutrients for training without adding weight. I, of course, go to the gym regularly and then do practice Q&As after that. I’m also doing some multimedia training as there will be a new, special award in the coming pageant for this.
Q: Message for you fans?
A: Please pray for me. Wish me luck. Thank you for your support. I will do my best for the country, and leave the rest to God.
