At a press conference for his latest movie My Lady Boss Richard Gutierrez announced he will be taking a long break from showbusiness. In this interview, he tells tabloid! why and what his plans are for the future.
Is it true you’re leaving for Switzerland not just to be with Sarah Lahbati but also to study filmmaking?
Yes it’s true I am going away for a while, but I am not sure if it will be Switzerland. I could go there just for a quick vacation and possibly study filmmaking there or elsewhere. My contract with GMA7 has expired. I have been with them for 11 years and maybe it’s about time to explore other options.
Such as transferring to another network?
Possibly, although I haven’t reviewed the offers yet. I’m just really planning on a long break.
Are you disappointed with how your career has turned out?
No disappointments. It’s been a very fruitful 11 years, with so many milestones in my career. I have been busy all throughout with TV projects and films, as well as shows abroad. I have done a variety of projects – from sci-fi series to action to reality and games shows. I’ve had a full career. That’s why I think I deserve a break so hopefully I could think about my options.
Why filmmaking?
Well, I’m quite hands on with my projects and I enjoy making inputs to the my directors, so I thought I’d learn some more about the technical aspects of filmmaking so maybe I can direct a future project. Another new phase in my career, another new challenge.
But is true you chose Switzerland because it’s a convenient excuse? That the reason you’re staying there for a while is so you could be with you girlfriend who is rumoured to be pregnant?
All these are just rumours. She will answer all the allegations at the proper time. As for me, of course I would love to spend some time with my girlfriend, who wouldn’t I? And as I said, it doesn’t have to be Switzerland. I could also study filmmaking in Cebu in a course offered by Bigfoot, which has strong connections to Hollywood.
Will this be your last film this year?
No. I still have a contract with GMA Films, so for sure I will have another film project with them. When it will happen I don’t know, but I will definitely honour that contract.
