George Wassouf's family has revealed that they are going through some difficult times after discovering that the Syrian singer is partially paralysed as a result of a brain stroke he suffered recently.

According to news reports, Wassouf's family has revealed that doctors have ordered the singer to retire as he is paralysed on the left side of his body.

A statement, which has been published in several Arabic newspapers, read: "Due to this devastating news, George's upcoming album, scheduled to be released during the upcoming holidays, will be his last. He had recorded this album prior to his stroke.

"We ask fans to pray for George. Your support is much appreciated."

Stars visit Amer

Amer Muneeb has fallen into a coma after recently being admitted to the intensive care unit at a private hospital in Cairo. It is unknown why the Egyptian singer was initially taken to hospital; however, news sources suggest that Muneeb may be suffering complications relating to him being diagnosed with colon cancer last year.

The singer travelled to Germany late last year to remove a tumour, and had recently informed his fans that he was on the mend and ready to resume a number of concerts that were later postponed.

Doctors have refused to disclose details of the singer's condition, asking everyone to "pray for him".

A number of celebrities have visited the hit singer in hospital, including Shirine Abdul Wahab, Angham and Eman Bahr Darweesh.

No kidding

Egyptian actress Mai Ezz Al Deen has decided to try her hand at presenting, and has been chosen to host a new kids' entertainment show.

The actress, who received critical acclaim for her role in the Ramadan TV series, Adam, which also starred Tamer Hosni, reportedly wants to take a break from the world of drama series and movies.

"I love children, so for me, presenting a kids' show will be great fun," she said. "I am really looking forward to it."

Waleed Mustafa is set to produce the show, which will begin by the end of the year on Al Nahar TV.
