It was lemons and pinks at the world premiere of one of this summer’s most-awaited films, Sex And The City 2 in New York city on Monday night.

As the stars turned out in full force, all eyes were on the gals, fashion icons in their own right.

Sarah Jessica Parker (Carrie) stood out in her hot lemon Valentino Couture while Kristin Davis (Charlotte) was not one to be outshone in her shocking pink vintage Jean Desses dress. While fashion critics are already divided on Parker’s and Davis’ choice of dress, there seems to be a consensus on Kim Cattrall’s (Samantha) gold Naeem Khan dress (“elegant”) and Cynthia Nixon’s (Miranda) black Carolina Herrera gown (“playing safe”).

Cast members Jason Lewis (Smith), Chris Noth (Mr Big), Willie Garson (Standford) and John Corbett (Aidan) were also in attendance, along with Candace Bushnell author of Sex And The City.

Singer Liza Minnelli, who has a cameo in the film, arrived in a shiny, see-through ensemble which is bound to have any self-respecting fashion lover turning away in disgust. She appeared to be having a lot of fun though.

Other stars who joined the much-anticipated premiere were singer/actress Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ugly Betty star Vanessa Williams, Gossip Girl actress Jessica Szohr, singer Ashanti, tycoon Donald Trump and wife Melania, comedian Jerry Seinfeld with wife Jessica and American television presenter Padma Lakshmi.

Reviews for the film have been mixed, however. While one hailed the return of the girls “in fine comic form with more cutting-edge humour than the first movie”, another referred to the film as “cliche-ridden, materialistic, misogynistic and borderline racist”.

We’d much rather decide for ourselves though - although the movie will not make it to our shores. Hopefully it’s not too long a wait until the dodgy Chinese DVD turns up.
