Think AI-driven search, live events, smarter recommendations as part of the major overhaul
Netflix is revamping the look and feel of its home page on TV screens — and the changes are more than just cosmetic, according to a report on CNN.
Over the next few weeks and months, depending on where you live, you’ll start to see a new, cleaner interface that not only looks more modern but is also designed to help you find your next favorite show, movie, live event, or game faster.
So, what’s new and why should you care?
A cleaner, more visual layout: Expect bigger visuals for shows and movies, plus more useful info at a glance — like if a title is trending or award-winning.
Easier navigation: Shortcuts that used to sit on the side will now appear at the top of the screen, making it easier to jump between sections.
Smarter recommendations: Netflix’s recommendation engine is being upgraded to better match your current mood or interests — so it’s more likely to suggest a cozy rom-com when you’re feeling down, or a thrilling documentary when you’re in the mood to learn.
These changes come as Netflix expands beyond traditional on-demand shows. With NFL games scheduled for Christmas Day and a growing slate of mobile games, the platform needs to be more flexible.
“Our current TV setup was great for streaming shows and movies,” Kim said. “But now we need something more dynamic to showcase everything from films to games to live content.”
Coming soon: TikTok-Style previews and AI-powered search:
Netflix is also experimenting with a new mobile feature: a vertical video feed — think TikTok or Instagram Reels — filled with bite-sized trailers and show clips. You’ll be able to tap to watch, save, or share instantly.
“We know swiping through short clips is a fun way to discover content,” Kim said. “So we’re testing a feed that helps you quickly find something worth watching.”
Plus, get ready for AI-powered search. Partnering with OpenAI, Netflix is working on a feature that lets you talk to the app like you would a friend. For example, you could say: “I want something upbeat and funny but not too silly,” and the app will find titles that match.
“We want to make it feel like Netflix just gets you,” added Chief Technology Officer Elizabeth Stone. “And that’s where AI comes in.”
Bottom line?
Netflix wants to make browsing and watching easier, faster, and more fun — whether you're searching for a gripping drama, live football game, or a chill comedy to unwind with. As your entertainment options expand, so does the way you’ll discover them.
