Indian classical musician and sarod (stringed instrument) maestro Aashish Khan will be performing in Dubai on August 18 at the Malhaar Centre of Performing Arts in Jumeirah Lakes Towers.
The Grammy nominee, who was shortlisted in 2006 in the Best World Music category for album Golden Strings of Sarode, will also be launching his book Sangeet — a Western notation explain the concept of Indian ragas or compositions — during his visit.
Khan, who has worked under noted classical musician, the late Ravi Shankar, also founded an Indo-American group Shanti with the award-winning tabla maestro Zakir Hussain. Khan’s music has been notable in award-winning films such as Richard Attenborough’s Gandhi and the late Satyajit Ray’s films Apur Sansar and Jalsaghar.
Other notable collaborations include music with The Beatles and Eric Clapton.
Khan will be joined on stage by his nephew, classical musician Shiraz Ali Khan at 6pm at Cluster W, JLT. The event is not ticketed, but you need to RSVP with the centre to get on the guest list.
