After the stupendous success of Dabangg, Salman Khan will take a Bollywood sabbatical to host the fourth season of the famed reality show Big Boss. If his earlier telly stint (game show Dus Ka Dum) is anything to go by, this one'll be another hit. Image Credit: Yogen Shah/Gulf News

Bollywood star Salman Khan is in town with his family to celebrate his birthday and to join in the New Year festivities.

Khan's writer father, Salim Khan, said that it was a "family decision" to celebrate his birthday in Dubai.

"We will be back only on January 3 next year," he was quoted by Indian daily DNA as saying earlier. "It's just a family vacation for us."

The star, who turns 45 on Monday, tweeted on Sunday: "On ma way to dubai. Wish u all a v happy new year." (sic)

The Khan family—brother Sohail and family, brother Arbaaz and wife Malaika, mum Salma, stepmum Helen, sisters Arpita, Alvira and her husband Atul—is staying  in one of the Khan family properties here.

"The whole Khan family is of the opinion that it's best to keep Salman away from the public eye as he is not in his best mood at present. Besides, they don't want any controversy centering around his birthday celebrations," a source was quoted as saying by the newspaper.

Meanwhile, many Bollywood actors took to Twitter to wish Khan on his birthday, whose record-breaking Dabangg is the highest grossing film of the year.

Sonakshi Sinha, his co-star in Dabangg, tweeted: "Chulbul Pandey/Robinhood Pandey/Salman Khan ko janamdin ki shubhkamnayein (Wishing Salman a very happy birthday)! Pretty sure he is bringing the house down in Dubai!".

Actress Preity Zinta also said: "Hey Salman! Wish you a very happy birthday and may all things wonderful big and small always come your way! Lots of love always", while actor Riteish Deshmukh added: "Wishing Salman Khan a very happy birthday."
