Tickets to see the legendary comedian Russell Peter's live in Dubai sold out in record time on Wednesday with almost 5,000 tickets snapped up in less than 50 minutes, making it the fastest-selling show of all time for Live Nation Middle East. Now tabloid! can exclusively reveal that Live Nation Middle East is adding an extra show night in Dubai to accommodate the thousands of Peters fans in the region.

His second date is now booked for March 19, a night before his original date on March 20 in Dubai. Tickets for the new show date go on sale Friday at midday.

tabloid! spoke to Peters just as the last tickets for the Dubai World Trade Centre show were being bought on Wednesday and the Indo-Canadian star expressed his utter joy at the desperation of his fans to support him.

"I am lost for words," he said over the phone, having just stepped off stage at an LA comedy club. "I can never quite believe the support of fans in Dubai and Abu Dhabi and I am just so pleased to be coming back. I am refreshed and energised and have so much to give. The new material is ready to be tested and I cannot wait to get there."

Live Nation Middle East managing director Tyler Mervyn said the ticket sales also highlight a shift in the way people buy their tickets in the UAE. The highest ticket category, Dh550, sold out in two minutes 50 seconds.

"We are noticing a more mature concert and event-buying market. People are starting to realise if there is a show they want to see they must sit by their computer and get their tickets early to avoid disappointment."

Peters also performs in Abu Dhabi on March 22 at the Flash Forum. Tickets for that show also go on sale on Friday at midday.

Ranked by Forbes as one of the top 10 highest grossing comics in the US in 2009 and 2010, Peters has been setting attendance records around the world, with more than 16,000 fans attending his show at London's O2 Arena and almost 14,000 attending his show at Sydney's Acer Arena.

The Notorious World Tour will take Peters not only to the Middle East, but also to South Africa, Singapore, Jakarta, Hong Kong, Manila, Australia, New Zealand, Northern Europe and arenas across his native Canada and the United States and also features NYC's DJ Spinbad and comedian Ruben Paul.

Tickets, priced Dh250, Dh350, Dh450 and Dh550, are available at ticketingco.com for Dubai and thinkflash.ae for Abu Dhabi.
