Director Satish Kaushik
Rating (G)

A fter making mainstream hits, Satish Kaushik now looks at social issues, with tale that tackles teen pregnancy.

The plot

Maahi (Shahabadi) is 15 years old. Her father Puri (Kapoor) is a famous lawyer. Her friend Kabir (Mumtaz), is a 17-year-old lad, whose father is an autorickshaw driver (Kaushik). Maahi and Kabir become close friends, but then Maahi falls pregnant and their parents banish them. What follows is a journey of discovery.

A rip-off?

Some say Teree Sang feels like a copy of Hollywood film Juno, but Kaushik denies this. "[It] isn't a remake of Juno. I completed the schedule before the release of Juno." But he can't deny the similarities with Telegu film Chitram. "I won't deny that I've watched Chitram, but my film is different," he insists.

Young couple

Young debutante Shahabadi takes on an extremely challenging role for her first film. "Teen pregnancy is a serious issue. Doing the film, I learnt that it's not only about the physical complications but also the emotional and moral dilemma a girl goes through," she says.

Ruslaan, who debuted with the romantic teen flick MP3 Mera Pehla Pehla Pyar, is more experienced. But despite that, he still had to audition three times for the the role of Kabir. "This film has an important message," he adds.

The flick has a good cast and great music, but who knows whether Kaushik has himself a hit?
