Asif Ali plays the troubled police officer who begins investigating a mysterious suicide

South Indian actor Asif Ali's Malayalam-language mystery crime thriller Rekhachithram is set to release on OTT platform Sony LIV on March 7. The film, which made a strong debut at the UAE box office, earned $925,000 (approximately Dh3.4 million) in its three-day opening weekend.
According to local distributor Phars Films, the thriller saw a footfall of 77,793 viewers, signaling its growing traction at the box office.
Directed by Jofin T. Chacko and scripted by John Manthrickal and Ramu Sunil, Rekhachithram features an ensemble cast, including Anaswara Rajan, Manoj K. Jayan, Siddique, Jagadish, Harisree Ashokan, and Indrans.
The film follows Vivek, a police officer reinstated after suspension, as he investigates the mysterious suicide of Rajendran, who confessed to a decades-old crime via social media. The case is linked to the disappearance of a young girl from the filming location of the 1985 movie Kathodu Kathoram, set in the secluded hills of Malakkappara. The thriller has received stellar reviews.
Both Asif Ali and Anaswara Rajan are on a box-office winning streak. Asif’s recent psychological thriller Kishkinda Kaandam was hailed as one of the most gripping films of 2024, while Anaswara’s legal drama Neru, where she played a differently-abled sexual assault survivor, also garnered critical acclaim.
