There is only one new, official Ghostbusters team. And apparently that’s Paul Feig’s film.

Earlier this week, at the New York premiere for Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation, screenwriter Drew Pearce made comments about the media labelled male-led Ghostbusters project, reportedly tied to directors Anthony and Joe Russo (Captain America: The Winter Soldier).

“Obviously it’s top-secret,” Pearce told MTV News. “But there’s a gigantic bold idea that I came up with, and the Russo brothers ... and Ivan Reitman, who did the original [Ghostbusters] movie, are going to take that and run with it.”

Pearce also confirmed that Chris Pratt and Channing Tatum were the stars they were eyeing for the project (but not officially tied to the movie in any way). The screenwriter clarified later on Twitter that his Ghostbusters idea involved a mixed gender team (and that he has not actually finished the script for the film).

However Reid Carolin, Tatum’s producing partner, recently indicated that Tatum may no longer be tied to the franchise, telling ScreenRant that the brand may be “over-saturated.”

At this point almost everyone has commented on the would-be “Ghostbusters movie,” with little or no regard to the currently filming female-lead Ghostbusters movie directed by Feig.

Enter Reitman, who issued the following statement regarding the Ghostbusters franchise and expanded universe:

“There has been a lot of excitement recently about what is happening with the Ghostbusters franchise. As the producer of the new Ghostbusters film, I feel the need to clarify. There is only one new Ghostbusters movie and that is the Paul Feig directed version coming next July, presently filming and going fantastically. The rest is just noise.”

Feig’s Ghostbusters is filming in Boston and stars Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones in the title roles.

It looks like no matter what has been previously reported or is making the rounds in the rumor mill, Reitman is putting a stop to it and making a strong effort not to undermine the current Feig team before it makes its onscreen debut.

So there you have it. There is only one official Ghostbusters project in production, and that is the all-female team. For now.
