Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra, who has been recruited to present an Oscar on February 28 at the 88th Academy Awards, is no stranger to awards glory.

Just last week, the 33-year-old Bollywood A-lister — and this year’s US TV breakout star — was honoured with the Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian honour.

“What a fabulous January to begin my year with. I’m a daughter of an army man, and so the feeling to get this civilian award is extremely special,” said Chopra in an interview with an Indian news agency.

But it’s far from her first award.

The Quantico star has reportedly won 90 awards — although this whopping statistic couldn’t be independently verified by tabloid!. But we do know that her awards shelf is groaning under the weight of one Indian National Award, eight Screen Awards, four IIFA Awards and five Filmfare Awards.

Ahead of her stint at the Oscars, tabloid! takes a look at the top five awards moments in Chopra’s life ...

Indian National Award in 2008 for best actress for her role in Fashion

Chopra may come across as a confident woman, but did you know that she first rejected the role as a troubled model in Fashion? The reason: She felt she didn’t have the experience to pull off such a demanding role.

“Everyone had warned me against it [Fashion]. I was just three years old in the industry and it was a big risk doing such a film. But Madhur’s [Bhandarkar, director] belief in me made me take it up. I said no first, but then Madhur said that he won’t make the film without me,” said Chopra to an Indian news channel, hours after taking home the Indian National Award in 2008. This wasn’t her only brush with National Awards glory. Last year, her film Mary Kom won the title of best popular film at the 62nd National Film Awards. She played a boxing champion in that biopic.

“This is a win for womanhood. U inspired me to be all that u are and I carry that in my heart always. Thank u Mary,” Chopra tweeted at the time.

Filmfare Award for best supporting actress for Bajirao Mastani

Chopra proved that the length of a role isn’t what matters when it comes to pulling off a sensational performance. Even though the title roles in this opulent warrior romance were played by Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone, Chopra shone as the strong, silent wife who graciously put up with her husband’s infidelity. The scene in which she made her displeasure known to her husband, claiming that she would have happily sacrificed her life for him if he had asked but he robbed her pride instead, was a knock-out.

Screen Award for best villain for Aitraaz

At a time when Bollywood actresses were shown as the paragon of virtue, Chopra became a welcome antidote by playing a woman who had no qualms about seducing a married man (Akshay Kumar). She was his boss and she expected him to do a lot more than just work. The scene in which she demands sexual favours openly may make you cringe, but Chopra managed to evoke empathy despite her vitriolic on-screen personality.

People Choice Awards: Favourite actress in a new TV series award for Quantico

Chopra became the first South Asian actress to win a People’s Choice Award for her role as an FBI agent in the TV series Quantico. She beat actresses including Emmaa Roberts, Marcia Gay Harden and Jamie Lee Curtis to the fan-voted title, which was presented on January 6.

Zee Cine Awards for best actress for Barfi!

Chopra played the role of an autistic woman who falls in love with a deaf man with subtlety and tenderness. With minimal make-up and no fashionable clothes as a crutch, the brand ambassador for Guess proved that you just need talent to pull off challenging roles.

“The greatest part about Barfi! is that it’s a very positive movie. When you have differently-abled people, you assume that their life is sad. But we show that they have a side of life that they enjoy,” said Chopra in an interview with tabloid! then. Click here for a video of her visit to Dubai to promote Barfi!.
