While Teefa In Trouble continues to score big in theatres all over Pakistan — it crossed another box office milestone recently when it beat the third-weekend collections of the Bollywood blockbuster Sanju — fans of Ali Zafar can look forward to the singer and actor’s next film outing that is due in October this year. Except that it’s only as a singer.

According to sources, Zafar has recorded a wedding number, titled Aafat Macha De, for indie filmmaker Hisham Bin Munawwar’s debut feature, Ready Steady No, which stars Amna Ilyas and newcomer Faisal Saif. The movie is said to be a slice-of-life romantic comedy about a young couple (played by Ilyas and Saif) that are trying desperately to make their marriage happen, in the face of many odds.

A sangeet (pre-wedding dance function) song, Aafat Macha Dey is literally the boys’ call to the girls to ‘dance up a storm.’ A peppy track, with a mix of Punjabi, Urdu and English slang, the song is composed by noted flautist and musician Baqir Abbas whose earlier collaboration with Zafar, on Teefa…’s soundtrack, has proved to be hugely popular with the audiences, be it Item Number or Chan Ve or Ishq Nachaunda.

Each of these boasts their own peculiar sound and arrangement and are given a certain gravitas by Zafar’s raspy voice and Aima Baig’s powerful vocals. And, we are ready to accept no one but Zafar to sing for himself in movie.

The video has been shot on the lead stars and a host of backup dancers, on a grand set that was erected at a farmhouse on the fringes of Lahore. As far as Aafat… is concerned, it is billed as a potential chartbuster already.

For Zafar, who has jumped back into limelight with Teefa…, both as a singer as well as the lead actor, it would be interesting to see how he fares as a playback singer solely.
