Manushi Chhillar was crowned Miss World 2017 at a glittering event in China, ending 16 years of drought for India at the international pageant.

Did you, however, miss the "Steve Harvey" moment at Saturday night's event? If you haven't heard of Harvey's name, you probably need to brush up on pageants.

At a live broadcast — and in an extremely rare occurrence in the history of the global beauty contests — host Steve Harvey announced the wrong winner at the Miss Universe 2015-2016 finals held in Las Vegas, Nevada, US.

Now, that's not to say Manushi Chhillar's Miss World crown went to the wrong lady. Apart from her Miss World title, Chhillar also won the Beauty with Purpose award in China.

This time, the jumble was more subtle. On Saturday night, Miss World's social media accounts incorrectly posted a photo of the 1st and 2nd runners up of the pageant.

At 10pm on Saturday in Dubai, the pageant's Facebook page and Twitter account announced that Miss England Stephanie Hill had won as 1st runner up, while Miss Mexico's Andrea Meza was 2nd runner up.

Bewildered netizens took to social media to seek clarification — as during the announcement at Miss World's coronation, Mexico's Andrea Meza was declared 1st runner up and England's Stephanie Hill was 2nd.

It took a few hours before Miss World's Facebook page posted an album with a caption with the correct winners.

At 2.50pm on Sunday, Dubai time, 21 hours after the event concluded, the tweet showing the mix-up of the positions of Miss England's Hill and Mexico's Meza remained.

It was not immediately clear what the organisers planned to do about social media scramble.

In a live global telecast during the Miss Universe 2015-2016 grand finale, Steve Harvey did a great job as the pageant's host but made a huge mistake.

Harvey announced that Colombia's Ariadna Gutiérrez won the Miss Universe when it should have been the Philippines' Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach.

The mistake briefly took the thunder away from Alonzo Wurtzbach in front of the world. The last time Miss Philippines won the title was in 1979.

On Saturday, around 108 women from across the world participated in the Miss World event, the oldest-running international beauty pageant launched in the United Kingdom by Eric Morley in 1951.

Ms Chhillar is the sixth Indian woman to win the coveted title. Reita Faria Powell was the first Indian woman to claim it back in 1966, followed by Aishwarya Rai (1994), Diana Hayden (1997), Yukta Mookhey (1999) and Priyanka Chopra (2000).
