Actress Nayanthara is setting the record straight—she doesn’t want to be called ‘Lady Superstar’ anymore.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, she penned a heartfelt note asking fans, the media, and the film fraternity to simply call her by her name. While she appreciates the love and admiration, she believes titles, no matter how flattering, can create an unnecessary divide between an artist and their craft.

Nayanthara on the ‘Lady Superstar’ Title

In her message, Nayanthara acknowledged the sentiment behind the title but made it clear that she prefers to be addressed as herself.

“To my dearest fans, respected media members, and the film fraternity—Vanakkam. I am incredibly grateful for the love and support that has shaped my journey. Whether cheering me on during my highs or standing by me through my lows, you have been my biggest strength,” she wrote.

She continued, “Many of you have affectionately called me ‘Lady Superstar,’ and while I deeply appreciate the honor, I humbly request you to call me ‘Nayanthara.’ My name is closest to my heart—it represents me, not just as an actor but as a person. Titles and accolades are wonderful, but they can sometimes create a distance between an artist and the audience.”

The actress also spoke about the role of cinema in bridging gaps and creating connections.

“Cinema unites us, and love is the language we all share. While the future remains unpredictable, your unwavering support gives me strength, just as I remain dedicated to entertaining you. Let’s continue to celebrate the magic of movies together,” she added.

Signing off with gratitude, she wrote, “With love, respect, and gratitude, Nayanthara.” She also captioned her post: “Nayanthara will always be and only Nayanthara.”

What’s next for Nayanthara?

On the work front, the actress has joined the cast of director Mahesh Narayanan’s much-anticipated Malayalam film, tentatively titled MMMN, which will reunite industry legends Mohanlal and Mammootty after 16 years. She is also set to star in Rakkayie, a period-action drama directed by Senthil Nallasamy.
