SM Entertainment’s girl group Girls’ Generation were highly successful in Japan and it seems Red Velvet may be following in their footsteps.

The K-Pop quintet debuted at no. 2 on Japan’s Oricon daily album chart following the release of their first Japanese mini-album #Cookie Jar on July 4 and sold 15,099 copies in one day.

Along with the lead single #Cookie Jar, the mini-album includes two new Japanese songs, Aitai-tai and Cause it’s you, as well as Japanese versions of their Korean hit tracks Red Flavor, Dumb Dumb and Russian Roulette.

Seulgi, Irene, Yeri, Joy and Wendy are currently preparing their second solo concert Redmare, which is scheduled to take place at SK Olympic Handball Gymnasium in Seoul on August 4 and 5.

Red Velvet has been one of Korea’s most prominent girl groups since their debut in 2014. With the successful launch on Japan’s most prestigious music chart, the female act is likely to continue growing in the Japanese market.
