Dubai: Malayalam cinema fans have reason to celebrate — megastar Mammootty, who has been away from the spotlight for several months due to health concerns, has reportedly made a full recovery.

According to close aides and prominent figures from the film industry, the veteran actor is ready to get back to work, starting with his much-anticipated film Patriot, which also stars Mohanlal.

Mammootty’s comeback confirmed

For months, speculation about Mammootty’s health had dominated headlines, with rumours suggesting that the actor was undergoing treatment for cancer.

His team repeatedly denied the claims, but the lack of public appearances kept fans anxious. Now, close aides and film personalities have reassured audiences that the 72-year-old star is well and gearing up to return to sets.

Producer Anto Joseph, a long-time associate of Mammootty, was among the first to hint at the good news, thanking God for answering prayers in a heartfelt social media post. Soon after, Mammootty’s aide George S shared a picture of the actor with a message of gratitude for the overwhelming support and prayers during the difficult period.

Industry celebrates the news

The announcement sparked a wave of relief and joy across the Malayalam film fraternity. Mohanlal, who will share screen space with Mammootty in Patriot, posted a candid picture of the two with a heart emoji, instantly delighting fans.

Director Siby Malayail and filmmaker Ratheena PT (who worked with Mammootty in Puzhu) also shared photos, with Ratheena writing “Double Ok” in her caption. Senior actress Maala Parvathi added her voice, calling it “the greatest news” and thanking the doctors and medical team for ensuring the actor’s recovery.

Projects lined up

With his return, Mammootty is expected to resume shooting for Patriot, helmed by director Mahesh Narayanan, in September. He will also complete dubbing for Kalamkaval, another upcoming release that features Vinayakan in a key role. The film is likely to arrive in theatres by late September or early October.

Over the past few years, Mammootty has delivered acclaimed performances in films like Bramayugam, Puzhu, and Bheeshma Parvam, solidifying his place as one of Malayalam cinema’s most versatile stars. His return, especially alongside Mohanlal in Patriot, is being touted as one of the biggest events of the year for Malayalam film lovers.
