Reports claiming he had colon cancer and was undergoing treatment is baseless
Dubai: Malayalam superstar Mammootty’s PR team has staunchly dismissed recent rumours suggesting that the actor had been diagnosed with colon cancer and was taking a break from films for treatment.
In a statement released today on March 17th, the team clarified that the reports were entirely baseless and that the veteran actor had taken time off for Ramadan.
Over the past few days, social media has been abuzz with speculation that Mammootty was undergoing treatment after being detected with first stage colon cancer and had stepped away from his professional commitments. But his team has refuted these claims and are assuring his legion of fans that Mammootty would soon resume his ongoing projects after Ramadan.
Speaking to Mid-Day, the 73-year-old star’s PR team stated: “It is fake news. He is on vacation because he is fasting for Ramadan. He is on a break from his shoot schedule as well because of that. In fact, after the break, he will go back to shooting for Mahesh Narayanan’s film with Mohanlal.”
The false reports appear to have originated from a Reddit post claiming that Mammootty was in the early stages of colon cancer but that it was treatable. This speculation quickly gained traction on social media, with various online channels engaging in discussions about the alleged diagnosis. The actor’s team has urged his fans to avoid believing or spreading such misinformation.
Mammootty is currently working on Mahesh Narayanan’s much-anticipated film, tentatively titled MMMN, where he will share screen space with Mohanlal. The star-studded film also features Nayanthara, Fahadh Faasil, Kunchacko Boban, Shaheen Siddique, Sanal Aman, Danish Husain, Revathi, Zarin Shihab, Darshana Rajendran, Renji Panicker, and Rajiv Menon.
In addition, Mammootty is gearing up for the release of Bazooka, an action thriller directed by Deeno Dennis. The film is set to hit theatres on April 10. His most recent release, Dominic and the Ladies' Purse, a crime comedy directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon, saw him play a cheeky private detective.
