Leia is the leader of the Rebel Alliance that fought against the Galactic Empire
She is a princess, but her work and style is not of the kind usually attributed to modern royalty. Leia Organa's strong character gives her a tremendous gift of control in battle or political negotiations.
Daughter of Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala, twin sister of Luke Skywalker, Leia is the leader of the Rebel Alliance that fought against the Galactic Empire.
The life of Leia was always tied to action. At the moment of her birth, Obi-Wan Kenobi decided that it would be safer if Leia were separated from her brother, Luke. For that reason she was taken to Alderaan, where Bail Organa adopted her. Leia lived in Alderaan and at age 18 she was chosen to represent the planet at the Imperial Senate.
Like her mother (Padmé, from whom she kept a blurred memory, despite the fact that Padmé died hours after her birth), Leia was a woman who was not afraid of a battle. Leia experiences a romance with another major character, Han Solo. The relationship between them varies from very tense to very funny.
In the expanded universe, Leia's character is vital in the construction of the New Republic. She becomes the leader of the Republic by two mandates. She also changed her name to Leia Organa Solo, after marrying Han Solo.
Something very special about Leia Organa was her style. In fact, Leia's gold bikini scenes were voted by Empire magazine as among the "most memorable in movie history". Also her braided hairdo was the result of "trying to create something different," according to George Lucas.
