Kanye West and Bianca Censori's almost-Grammy hijack: When a dress or the lack of it is stealing spotlight

Is it fair that a red carpet turn by the rapper's wife would upstage Beyonce's win?

The Grammy Awards have always been a stage for the unexpected, but this year, it wasn’t a surprise win, an emotional speech, or even a rogue Kanye West interruption that grabbed the most headlines.

No, it was something far more transparent —literally.

Enter Kanye West and his wife, Bianca Censori, who decided to grace the red carpet in a fashion moment that could only be described as a performance art piece titled Look at Me, Not the Grammys.

While Beyoncé was inside making history as the first Black woman in 50 years to win Best Country Album, West’s wife—dressed in what could generously be called a sheer whisper of fabric—was outside redefining the term ‘barely-there couture.’

To their credit, the couple’s strategy was effective. The internet exploded with debates about Censori’s outfit, West’s ever-present sunglasses, and whether the duo had been unceremoniously booted from the event or simply decided to leave after their attention quota was met.

Meanwhile, inside the venue, Beyoncé was busy securing another notch in her already record-breaking Grammy belt. Her album, Cowboy Carter, proved that country music isn’t just for a select few, shattering boundaries and silencing critics who have long gatekept the genre.

But was that the trending topic of the night? Of course not.

Instead, social media and entertainment blogs were dissecting sheer fabric density and the elasticity of Kanye’s ability to dominate headlines without even stepping inside the arena.

This isn’t the first time West has managed to overshadow a moment that should belong to someone else—Taylor Swift’s VMAs mic-snatch, anyone? But this time, he didn’t even have to say a word. The mere presence of his wife in an ensemble that looked more like a provocative Instagram filter than an actual dress was enough to command all eyes.

The irony here is palpable.

A Black woman winning Best Country Album should have been the conversation of the night. The optics of that moment—an artist like Beyoncé breaking barriers in a genre historically resistant to diversity—should have been front-page news. Instead, the focus was on another woman’s decision to embrace exhibitionism, proving once again that in 2025, the discourse around women in entertainment still skews toward their bodies rather than their achievements.

Maybe next year, we’ll talk about talent instead of transparency—unless Kanye and Bianca have other plans.

Who's Bianca Censori?

Bianca Censori is an Australian architect and designer best known for her relationship with Kanye West (Ye). She works as the Head of Architecture at Yeezy, Kanye's fashion and design company. Censori gained public attention in early 2023 when she reportedly married Kanye in a non-legally binding ceremony. Her unique and bold fashion choices, often minimalist and futuristic, have also sparked discussions in fashion and entertainment circles.
